As stated in the Welcome post, this blog is primarily about vegetable gardening in Southern California. In this blog I will write about my experiences, what works and what doesn't work. I'll also write about pest control, fungus control, and something I have found that very few people know about - Companion Planting. I'm planning on making a chart for people to download for easy reference to Companion Planting.

Everything I grow is organic and started from seeds. I do not buy plants from the "Big Box" stores or local nurseries even though they may have organic plants. I prefer to know what I am planting and I enjoy watching seeds sprout into plants. It may not be as fast as planting a large tomato or pepper plant in the ground, but it's a lot more fun and it gives me more time to get my soil planted.

Here's a little bit about me:

When I was a kid (in the 60s), I would spend summers at my grandparents' house in northern Colorado. My grandfather had a huge garden and my grandmother would freeze much of the harvest. I learned more from my grandmother than I did my grandfather and now I wish I would have shown more interest in what he was doing. It wasn't until 2013 that I decided I wanted to start growing our own vegetables and the following year I went to organic because we really wanted to start eating better. That brings us to where we are now, getting ready to start our 2016 organic garden.
